Innovation and Leadership in Government (ILG)

Georgetown University’s Innovation and Leadership in Government (ILG) is an annual professional development (non-degree) executive education program organized by Georgetown University's Latin America Leadership Program (LALP) to promote responsible and ethical public leadership and innovation across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Every year, ILG brings together a select and diverse cohort of Latin American leaders from the public, social, multilateral, and international cooperation sectors to participate in an experiential program where participants exchange ideas and best practices and analyze innovation opportunities for some of the most urgent challenges facing the public and social sectors in Latin America. The Innovation & Leadership in Government (ILG) program is designed to equip participants with analytical frameworks and tools to develop and implement innovative public policies and social initiatives while providing them with leadership development opportunities to promote new ideas and programs in their respective organizations effectively.

ILG goes beyond a traditional academic program, as it provides an innovative model to promote experiential learning and a unique networking platform to foster ties beyond the duration of the program. Similar to LALP's GCL program, ILG participants apply their program learnings and experiences to develop a project within their organizations that they will carry out upon their return. The curriculum combines academic courses to offer theoretical frameworks and knowledge to develop and advance policy proposals and initiatives, the region's practical and current case studies to reflect on best and innovative practices, and mentoring sessions for project development. As a program that serves public and social leaders across the region, ILG is designed to foster peer-to-peer learning to promote principled and transformational leadership that responds to the challenges and opportunities of Latin America.

At the end of the program, participants join the LALP alumni network. The program is carried out in Spanish and may, at times, be taught in English with simultaneous translation from English to Spanish, as required.
